12:51 pm PT Afternoon Wrap: Solid Reversal :The market extended the August breakdown in early action but quickly stabilized. While the rebound stalled after the first hour of trade only limited pullbacks were noted with further recovery gains noted this afternoon. The turnaround has been broad based in nature with Coal +3.7%, Steel +2.5%, Biotech +1.4%, Semi +1.4%, Gold +1.2%, Disk Drive +1.1%, Oil +1.1%, Drug +1% pacing the way. Volume is mixed with it running slightly below the pace of the last few days at the Nasdaq (1.123 bln) and slightly above at the NYSE (1.093 bln).
