Market Update Sat 10:03am ET: Weekly Recap - It was a mixed week for the stock market. Downward momentum from late last week carried into early this week, but the market then stabilized and went into a holding pattern.
Two themes from the past week were good economic data and continued mergers and acquisitions.
On Monday, the S&P 500 lost 7 points. There was no major news to account for the loss, but the tone had worsened late in the prior week. Tuesday, the S&P was down a miniscule 0.30 for its fourth straight loss. That changed on Wednesday, as the S&P gained 3 points and...
All Things in Moderation. New research suggests that a few drinks a week can reduce your chances of heart disease. Be careful to steer clear of high-calorie drinks -- avoid sweet mixers, like soda, tonic and juice.

2:08 pm PT Market Wrap : After being stuck in the tightest of trading ranges amid a lack of market-moving catalysts, renewed selling interest within the last hour of trading closed the major indices as well as nine of ten economic sectors in negative territory. However, much of the volatility late in the day can be directly tied to a lack of participation, as holiday-thinned trading desks resulted in much lighter than normal volumes.
