Market Update Close: Despite staging a late-day rebound that a rising Tech sector (+0.6%) spurred, the equity market was not altogether successful in ending the losing streak that has characterized quarter four. 2:12 pm PT Waters Expects Weaker Than Projected Third Quarter 2005 Sales and Earnings (WAT) 41.38 +0.71:Co announced that it expects to report Q3 EPS weaker than prior estimates, primarily due to slower than expected sales growth. Co expects sales growth of 3% y/y, previously 8%; Q3 EPS is projected at $0.43, which the Company had estimated at $0.47 in its July 26 conference call, are now projected at ~$0.43, ex items, Reuters consensus is $0.48, previous guidance was $0.47. Geographically, sales declined in the U.S., where instrument sales to large pharmaceutical accounts were less than expected due to delays associated with both the evaluation of new products and the release of capital budgets. Sales outside of the United States were largely in line with the Company's expectations, with strong sales growth in Asia. Co anticipates a continuation of the challenging business conditions experienced in the third quarter, with comparable sales growth before currency impacts, and is evaluating opportunities to control operating expenses.
1:08 pm PT RF Monolithics reports AugQ results (RFMI) 6.15 -0.01:Co reports Q4 (Aug) loss per share of $0.03 vs one analyst estimate of $0.02 profit. Sales fell 8.3% yr/yr to $11.5 mln vs one est of $11.7 mln. Co says results were impacted by Delphi's (DPH) bankruptcy filing as it is a major customer, at 12% of sales in the quarter. Apart from Delphi, a significant order for its higher-margin Virtual Wire product was moved out of the quarter due to customer delays.
