Lowered guidance based on: first, a one-time payment to a customer recorded against current period revenue; second, a late-quarter demand shift away from hub/consigned products and toward highly integrated GPRS, EDGE and WCDMA front-end modules, which the co was unable to support within the quarter given material and capacity constraints. Operating income is expected to be in the range of $7-$10 mln.

| 1:32 pm PT General Cable Reaches Agreement in Principle to Acquire a Global Leader in High Voltage Energy Cable Systems (BGC) 15.29 -0.17:Co announced that it has reached an agreement in principle to acquire the wire and cable manufacturing business of SAFRAN SA, a diverse, global high technology company. The business to be acquired has historically gone to market under the names Silec and Sagem. Silec is based in Montereau, France and employs 1,000 associates with nearly a million square feet of manufacturing space in that location. In 2004, co reported global sales of ~210 million Euros with about 60% derived from the sale of energy cables. Subject to closing adjustments, the consideration to be paid for the acquisition would be ~75 million Euros, which includes about 65 million Euros for the net working capital. Funding for the transaction is expected to come from available cash and a new term loan in Europe. The transaction is expected to close during Q4.
